The Erasing Borders
Erasing Borders is a people’s movement to find peaceful solutions to end the conflict in the Afghanistan, Pakistan and India region. Based on the history of the region, we know war is not a means to end conflict. Therefore, going forward, we believe we need a radically new approach.
In such an approach, we envision that the local population would take the lead in the peace process to reverse the tide of extremism, war, violence and to promote peace and security in the region. To cultivate a base for sustained peace, our vision would also include programs to promote education, economic growth and job opportunities to allow the region’s citizens to pursue a better future for themselves and their countries. These programs are particularly essential for the emerging youth, who constitute over 50% of the total population in each country in the region. This approach would have a regional dimension as well, as the instability in one country affects the security of the other two countries in the region. To promote such a Vision, we created this new organization to promote sustainable peace and security in the Af-Pak-India region.
The name, Erasing Borders, highlights the importance of the three countries to think beyond their borders and focus on a cross border strategy to promote peace and security. This is a new paradigm – a new way of thinking. This could be a model for a new architecture for peace in the 21st Century.
“So long as our relationship is defined by our differences, we will empower those who sow hatred rather than peace, those who promote conflict rather than the cooperation that can help all of our people achieve justice and prosperity. And this cycle of suspicion and discord must end”.
